Berkshire and Surrey’s planning landscape

Berkshire and Surrey have some of the highest concentrations of Tree Preservation Orders in England, particularly in the Thames Valley, the Surrey Hills AONB, and the many Conservation Areas across both counties. Wokingham, Windsor, Guildford, and the villages of the Surrey Hills are all areas where arboricultural work requires careful planning compliance. We know the rules in every area we work and we handle the paperwork as part of every job.

Tell us what you need — we will visit, assess and quote for free. No obligation. Usually within the week.

It depends on whether the tree has a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) or sits within a Conservation Area. TPO trees require consent from your local planning authority before any work begins. In Conservation Areas, most tree work on trees over 75mm diameter requires six weeks prior notification. We check both before any job starts and handle the application process for you.

Every job is different — size of tree, access, species, whether there is a TPO, and what you want done with the debris all affect the price. We do not quote without seeing the tree first. Our site visits are free, our quotes are written with a fixed price, and there is no pressure to proceed.

Yes. We carry £10 million public liability insurance on every job. All team members hold NPTC qualifications including aerial tree work and chainsaw operations. We can provide certificates on request.

BS3998 is the British Standard for Tree Work. It specifies correct practice for pruning cuts, crown reduction ratios, and how to manage trees safely and sustainably. We carry out every job to this standard — it is not optional for us.

For genuine emergencies — a tree on a roof, blocking a road, or posing immediate danger — we respond 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For non-emergency storm work we aim to visit within the week. Call us rather than messaging for anything urgent.

Yes, regularly. Conservation Area tree work requires six weeks prior notification to your local planning authority for most trees over 75mm diameter. We submit the notification for you, field any questions from the authority, and schedule the work accordingly. No extra charge for this.

We give you the choice. Logs can be left split and stacked for firewood, left whole, or removed from site. Chippings can be spread as mulch on borders — good for the garden and it saves a skip — or removed. If it needs clearing, it gets cleared.

Yes. All our team hold NPTC qualifications in utility arboriculture, which covers working near overhead lines and services. For trees directly on live conductors we coordinate with the relevant utility company. For trees near buildings we section fell as required and use rigging to control timber descent.

Always, without exception. We visit the site, assess the tree, check for TPOs, and give you a written quote with a fixed price. No hidden extras, no charge for the visit, no obligation to proceed.

Yes. Ash dieback is now widespread across Berkshire and Surrey. We assess ash trees for infection, advise on the risk they pose to people and property, and carry out safe removal. Early survey and removal planning is significantly cheaper than emergency removal after a tree has become dangerous.
